Insurance takes 3-5 days to process, therefore you do not need to rush.
The Immigration office need a one page "Certificate of Insurance".

This has a specialized service for Foreigners/Expats which includes
Full insurance but also has a unique service to book for you any
appointments needed, find a specialist, etc.
This can be very useful the first year if you don't speak Spanish and
have concerns or may need help finding a doctor or specialist.
The price is guaranteed for life regardless of age.

INSURANCE at BANK
These policies may also be available at banks and can help to open a bank account, however the prices can be higher and the minimum contract is for 3 years, which is very limiting.
It is difficult to get the required Certificate of Insurance from the banks.

CONVENIO ESPECIAL - Joining Spanish Healthcare Services
After one year of residency in Spain you can request to join the
Spanish Health Service directly by paying a monthly fee to Social
Security. This can be used instead of Private insurance for residency
and it covers ALL pre-existing and future conditions. It is similar to
the S1 transfer from other EU countries or through employment
in Spain paying into Spanish Social Security.
We do not process this type of application.
In order to apply, you must have:
a) TIE Card or Green EU residency card for at least one year
b) Passport
c) Padron less than 3 months old
d) Application form for Convenio Especial
e) Bank Direct Debit Form
COST
- Under 65 years old: monthly fee of 60€
- 65 or older: monthly fee of 157€.
COVERAGE
The Special Healthcare Convention agreement allows access to healthcare services included in the basic common portfolio of healthcare services of the National Health System for the duration of the agreement.
The special agreement DOES NOT cover services included in the supplementary common portfolio of the National Health System, such as pharmaceutical, prosthetic, dietary products, or non-emergency medical transport.
The Convenio Especial covers the requirements for Healthcare for all residency and visa applications. Therefore private insurance is not needed.
HOW TO APPLY in VALENCIA
Application for subscription to the Special Agreement for Healthcare Assistance for individuals who are not covered by the National Health System or its beneficiaries. Please find attached the form for your signature.
